The other end of my winters odyssey is the desert southwest. While seemingly the opposite of Alaska it shares the same 'large canvas' feeling with it's ceaseless panoramas and stark natural beauty. And while Alaska sits in the dark 20 hours a day, I can still catch golden sunrises and sunsets if I give it just a little effort.
