Normally I have spent most of the last 17 winters in Alaska, but now I spend part of each winter touring and shooting the west coast and driving to the desert southwest. I love the huge variety of natural subjects and how different they are from the scenes I have grown accustomed to in Alaska.

The Jack Fire, in Yosemite National Park, sends smoke down a valley amongst the trees before the sunrise clears the ridge top. So far this controlled management fire has burned 300 acres. Over 106 personnel are stationed on the fire maintaining the southern boarder.
