Normally I have spent most of the last 17 winters in Alaska, but now I spend part of each winter touring and shooting the west coast and driving to the desert southwest. I love the huge variety of natural subjects and how different they are from the scenes I have grown accustomed to in Alaska.
One leg of this trip that I can highly recommend is to get off the little Hwy. 101 and drive the parrallel "Avenue of the Giants" road. You will average about 10 mph, and a large kink in your neck from trying to see the tops of the trees through the windscreen. You can consider yourself lucky if you don't drive off the road at least once. Note in this photo I'm the tiny yellow blob at the foot of the middle giant Redwood.
